The evidence appears to be clear. John Goodman caused the collision and death of Scott Wilson. Wilson was 23 year old at the time of his death. Goodman is known as being a wealthy Polo Player. The collision with Wilson happened after Goodman had been drinking. Goodman's blood alcohol concentration was twice the legal limit at the time the specimen was obtained. Goodman has been convicted of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. He has asked for a new trial claiming many things including juror misconduct.
Q. Should Goodman be treated differently because it appears he has wealth? There is an allegation that the jurors discussed his wealth during the criminal trial even though the Judge ordered them not to do so.
Q. As part of Goodman's request for a new trial, he advises the Judge that the civil case involving the parents of Wilson has settled, $23 million to each parent for each year of his life. Do you believe this is fair compensation?
Q. When asked about the settlement, the civil lawyers for Scott Wilson say a majority of the money came from insurance companies and not Goodman personally. How do you feel about insurance companies paying for the actions of Goodman?
I saw a story where it was stated that Goodman adopted his 40ish year old girlfriend to protect his assets. Really? That just doesn't pass the smell test for me. It probably didn't help Goodman that he alleged his several hundred malfunctioned.
When will we realize that even when there are mistakes made, the cover ups and lies are even more of an insult to the injury?
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wilson family and the members of the Goodman family.
