For 14 years my sweet little baby Avery has dealt with various diagnosis that run from Tourettes to Aspergers to high functioning autism. All I know is that she is the sweetest, greatest gift that my wife are blessed to call our daughter. Avery recently gave me the most wonderful compliment a dad could ever get, she said that I "understood her." Good thing I never have to be hooked up to a lie detector test on this issue. Try as hard as I do to understand her, I don't understand the neurological issues that torment her every minute of every day.
Today I want to say thank you to Microsoft Corp co-founder Paul Allen on behalf of my family for making another substantial donation to the Allen Institute for Brain Science in Seattle. He has now donated $500 million to help further research into how the brain works and how we should treat brain-related disorders.
Mr. Allen – If you are ever in Athens, Texas, you are more than welcome to be our guests. We are indebted to you for your kindness and I'm sure we are joined by every family in America that has a family member suffering from a brain related disorder.
