Does this Tractor Trailer Truck Really Need to Pass or is This An Accident Waiting to Happen?

How many times have you been driving with your cruise control set at or a little above the speed limit and you look up to see the tractor trailer right behind you bearing down on the back of your car? You can't get over fast enough can you?

I remember from driver's education a simple question. Is this pass necessary?

I wonder if the same question was going through the mind of the tractor trailer driver that caused a collision in Sequin, Texas, this past week. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a tractor trailer clipped the back of a Chrysler PT Cruiser causing the driver to lose control and sending it head-on into a Seguin Independent School District Bus. The collision occurred around 6:30 a.m.

Certainly if you are driving a tractor trailer rig you know that there are school children everywhere around you at 6:30 in the morning.

What is truly amazing is that the bus involved was recently purchased by the Seguin ISD and was equipped with the latest and greatest safety features including flame retardant seats and a roof that could withstand one and a half times its weight.

The wreck sent 13 people to the hospital. Thankfully no deaths were caused by this pass. We send our thoughts and prayers to all of those injured including the tractor trailer driver who was airlifted to the hospital.

It's probably going to be pretty tough for kids to want to ride the bus again anytime soon. The children on the bus all have a claim against the driver of the tractor trailer and the company that employed him for damages relating to the accident. These damages include medical expense and any type of counseling required to help get through this trauma now and in the future. I pray the families of the children and the driver of the PT cruiser will seek all reasonable and necessary medical treatment to fully recover from this accident.

Congratulations to the Seguin ISD for putting students safety first in their purchase of buses. Good work.

Please ask yourself the next time you are driving whether this pass is truly necessary. What load could be so important that risking the lives of our children was worth this destruction?

Good to see that there were no deaths.

So many drivers today are too impatient when on the road, as well as some who seem to think if you’re going the speed limit, you’re going too slow.

Many people rush everywhere they go, alot of them for no reason at all. It is not worth the risk. I hope for the best outcome for all the children and the other person involved.
