12 Step Program for Your Cell Phone and Driving Addiction

Comments Off

My wife and I are proud to be active participants in the movement to help educate our community on the dangers of cell phone use and driving. Our non-profit NODD, No to Distracted Driving, has passed out over 13,000 X THA TXT wrist bands. We really appreciate young drivers in and around East Texas who wear them as a daily reminder of the dangers of texting and driving.

We are also very honored to participate in National Distracted Driving Awareness Month this April with our friends at EndDD.org and 60 for Safety. Thank you so very much to Joel Feldman and his family for their tireless efforts to educate the public on the dangers of cell phone use and driving.

Please consider the following 12 steps when you drive a car. A lot of innocent lives could be saved as well as thousands of unnecessary injuries if we would all commit to these 12 steps:

  1. I will drive without texting.
  2. I will drive without making or receiving calls or texts.
  3. I will call or text before I start driving, to let parents or friends know when I’ll arrive.
  4. When I am alone, I will turn my cell phone off before I start to drive.
  5. I will pull over to safe location before making or receiving calls or text messages.
  6. I will deputize my passenger to make or receive calls and texts while I am driving.
  7. I will wait until I have finished driving to eat.
  8. I will until I am finished driving to swap CDs or scroll through my iPod or iPhone (or similar device) to change music selections.
  9. I will apply makeup before I start to drive, or wait until I am finished to reach for objects in the back seat.
  10. I will wait to text or call others until they have finished driving.
  11. I will ask my driver to drive more safely when I am a passenger in their car.
  12. I will be a driver who cares about the safety of others and is not selfish.
