Cincinnati Schools Work to Educate Students on Bullying

Congrats to the Cincinnati Public Schools for allowing students to watch the film, "Bully." I know it's a tough call to allow students to watch a PG-13 rated show but let's face it, kids in high school have already heard bad words. The film is a documentary that deals with the issue of bullying.

Bullying continues to be one of the main safety issues for school children. With technology, bullying no longer happens only during school hours. It is a 24/7 problem. Bullying is a very real problem in cyberspace. In fact, it is called cyber bullying.

The film originally had an R rating. Actors including Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp worked to request that the R rating be reduced to a PG-13 rating.

We can talk all day to students and our kids about the affects of bullying but to see a movie that shows how it truly affects families is very powerful. I'm impressed that the school district took the initiative to make this documentary available to students who might otherwise never see this movie.

This movie is a great start to a much needed discussion about bullying in our schools. I have no doubt that bullying is a very real problem in every school in this Country. The only way to help stop bullying is to educate all of the students and parents on what bullying really is and how to prevent it.

Bullying is a very big problem. As a parent of a child who was bullied, I am very hopeful that the schools and parents can work together to educate our young children. Teach them that this behavior is not okay.
